My dear fellow Tangueras y Tangueros, In July, a new baby was born - Tango Club Kuala Lumpur. Therefore, it was only fitting to celebrate this special moment with a "Milonga" held at the birthplace of tango in Malaysia, "Little Havana".
The evening started with a complimentary, half hour warm-up class on tango. The crowd was sporting and supportive. They were surprised to find that dancing tango was really not as difficult as imagined. A delicious buffet spread generously sponsored by Prima Agri-Food Industries and backed up by Little Havana was laid out at 9 pm. It was enjoyed by all. The highlights of the evening were the performances given by our own tango people. Leading the way were the first 2 couples (very much beginners!) - Betty and David started off the song and Ida and KC finished it. Then it was on to the bouncy and infectious milonga, spiritedly danced by Lale and Teyo. Runa & Cheah ended the evening's entertainment with their version of Recuerdo.
They were so well received, they graciously responded with an encore. Emcee for the evening was Gonzalo Ramirez, who did an excellent job, especially when it came to collecting funds for the new baby! Danny Yong was an able "money collector" with his clay pot. The baby did well and a generous RM 432/-- was collected and will immediately go towards the new website for Tango Club Kuala Lumpur. Marguerite Brodie, Pro-Tem President of the newly formed Tango Club was then introduced. She warmly thanked everyone for their support and presence that evening. After 2 years of struggles she was very happy to see tango a reality in Kuala Lumpur. written by picaflor |
