“Great stage impact dancers”
Outstanding national exponents of stage tango, they have developed their own
original style with basis on the traditional tango esthetics merged with other styles and
dances.
At the moment, they are part of the corps ballet of the Orquesta filarmónica de
Montevideo, of the Orquesta Matos Rodríguez and they are also soloist dancers and
choreographers of the Uruguayan show Bien Polenta. Since 2004, they have been
teaching tango in different institutions in Montevideo and they have participated in
multiple activities of the programs “Tango en Obra” and “Esquinas de la Cultura”,
developed by Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo. In their classes they take traditional
tango as starting point, giving an incentive to the students to explore and seek
identification with the dance. They also emphasize the connection with the partner and
the techniques as the basic elements.
Mariana has got a Master degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de la República
Oriental del Uruguay and she has graduated from the Musical Initiation School “Virgilio
Scarabelli Alberti”; where she learnt to be a pianist and folk dancer. She has complementary
training as a classic ballet dancer.
Nazareno is a Technical Builder graduated from the Universidad del Trabajo de Montevideo. He
made some incursions into different dance styles, meeting the true passion in tango. He is now
one of the best tango teachers in Montevideo.
They began their training together as tango dancers in 1997 and since then, they
have developed as a dance couple, having consolidated their training beside outstanding
uruguayan and argentinian teachers and dancers. In 2005, they were NATIONAL
CHAMPIONS in the Tango Scenario category, and they were also SEMIFINALISTS of the III
and V World Championship of Tango in Argentina (2005 and 2007); in all instances the
choreographies presented were of their own creation.
Mariana and Nazareno have travelled to different countries, in artistics tours:
Argentina -2005 and 2007, Paraguay and Italia (2000). Over the period 2000-2004 they
were part of the corps de ballet of Uruguay Tango Co. They were also part of many shows
during their artisitic careers, performing with outstanding uruguayan and argentinian
artists such as Malena Muyala, Tango-Copla y Cha Cha Cha from Italia Fausta Co.,
Argentinian Orchestra Salam-Shalom, Raúl Lavié, among others. They were part of the
show “Tango Attraction”, award winner of the Cóndor de Oro in the first festival of San
Luis – Argentina (2005). They have recently participated in a japanese documentary of
the Cumparsita, made in Montevideo and Buenos Aires by the NHS-Japan Broadcasting
Corporation.

· OUTSTANDING ACTIVITIES
They have recently participated in a japanese documentary on the Cumparsita, made in
Montevideo and Buenos Aires by the NHS-Japan Broadcasting Corporation.
They took part of the show “Bien Polenta”; they went on tour through the provinces: San
José (Macció Theatre), Florida, Durazno and Rocha.
The couple was Semifinalist of the V Tango World Championship 2007, Stage Tango category.
Self-made coreography. Classification in Buenos Aires – Argentina.
They were specially invited to the III International Tango Festival of San Luis – Argentina.
December 2007. As part of the show directed by the famous dancer Laura Legazcue and as
soloists with self-made coreographies.

Members of the Jury Panel of the National Tango Championship 2006 (Colonia): selection of
the semifinalists to the National Championship which took part in Montevideo, under the IV World
Tango Championship organized by the Buenos Aires Administration and the City Town Hall of
Montevideo.
Champions of the National Tango Championship 2005 : Stage Tango category.
This championship took part in Uruguay under the III World Tango Championship organized by the
Buenos Aires Administration and the City Town Hall of Montevideo. Self-made coreography.
Semifinalists in the III World Tango Championship 2007: Stage Tango category. Self-made
coreography. Classification in Montevideo-Uruguay.
Winners of the Condor de Oro Award: Presentation of the show “Tango Attraction”, directed by
Laura Legazcue. They received the Award along with the Nelson Alberti´s Orchestra. Ist. Tango
Festival of San Luis – Argentina, December 2005. Participation as a soloist couple with self-made
coreographies.

FORMATION AS DANCERS:
They started their formation as tango dancers together, in Montevideo, in the year 1997 in Joven
Tango (with different teachers) and they have developed and grow as a dancer couple since then,
having consolidated their formation along with outstanding uruguayan and argentinian teachers
and dancers. Mariana and Nazareno have taken clases of different tango styles, a lot of specific
thematic tango seminars as well as milonga and waltz. Their participation in the following
